ELECTRICAL INSPECTIONS CHECKLIST – WIRING METHODS AND DEVICES
April 30, 2025 | QHSE Documents | 2 Comments

This essential checklist guides you through thorough electrical inspections, focusing on wiring methods and device installations.

1.1. First, identify the wiring methods in use and then verify their suitability for the occupancy and conditions.

1.2. Next, confirm that all conductors of a circuit are grouped together.

1.3. Additionally, check insulation values where conductors of different systems share common enclosures.

1.4. Carefully inspect wiring methods for proper spacing from framing edges and for protection against nails and screws.

1.5. Ensure insulating bushings or grommets are present where NM cable runs through metal studs or where insulated conductors 4 AWG or larger enter enclosures.

1.6. Moreover, examine the cover, fill, protection, and allowances for ground movement on underground conductors and raceways.

1.7. Crucially, verify that electrical raceways and cable trays are used exclusively for electrical conductors.

1.8. Also, check for continuity and completeness in metal raceways and enclosures.

1.9. Furthermore, confirm that wiring methods are securely fastened, supported independently of suspended ceilings, and not serving as supports.

1.10. Therefore, ensure continuity of grounded conductors in multiwire branch circuits.

1.11. Then, check for adequate length of free conductors within boxes.

1.12. Always verify that boxes are correctly installed at junction, splice, outlet, switch, and pull points.

1.13. Subsequently, assess conductor fill in raceways.

1.14. Before conductor installation, ensure that raceway systems are complete.

1.15. For vertical raceways, check for adequate conductor supports.

1.16. Finally, verify that fire ratings have been fully restored at electrical penetrations.

1.17. Lastly, inspect wiring installations in ducts, plenums, and other air-handling spaces for proper methods and materials.
