Consequences

Electrical Work Up To 400 Volt's Operatives – Electric shock with injury from burns

Control Measures

  1. Live work to be avoided where possible.  
  2. Electricity at work (Safe Working Practices) and a written, safe system of work to be devised.
  3. Sufficient PPE to be available.
  4. Access to live conductors to be controlled and appropriate signage in place. A written safe system of work will be required for work on complex systems (control, metering and parallel circuits. Clear access of 1-metre and insulated tools, gloves, and matting are to be provided for live working. The electrical test equipment will be insulated and on the date for calibration. Electricity supply authority seals will not be broken, and final connections will not be made without written authorization.
  5. Circuits to be worked on will be treated as live until verified dead without exception
  6. Live work is only to be carried out by authorized, competent electricians under the direct supervision of nominated supervisors.
  7. Electricians will not be permitted to work unaccompanied on live connections above 50 volts A.C. or 120 D.C. (following HSG 85) unless specifically authorized, and good communications are in place.  
  8. Appropriate and essential PPE as per the work requirements and safety, first aid, and qualified first aiders are to be available at the workplace where live work is to be undertaken.
